Diagnostic Evaluation

Initially, a new patient will first under go a diagnostic evaluation. The evaluation will occur between the patient (and parents/guardians of minor patients) and one of our mental health professionals to obtain a complete history of  their family, medical, psychological, and social history. The primary goal is help determine and create a treatment plan towards alleviating some of the concerning behaviors, thoughts or emotions that may be negatively impacting the patient. The treatment plan will typically involve a combination of psychotherapy and/or medication management depending on the patient's specific needs.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy (also known as 'talk therapy') occurs between an individual and/or with a family member and a mental health professional. The type of psychotherapy a patient will receive will be determined by the patient's need. Our mental health providers typically draw from a large array of modalities which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Developmental Systems Approach
  • Family Systems
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapies (DBT)
  • Trauma-Focused/Informed Approach
  • Psychodynamic
  • Safe and Sound Protocol

Medication Management

After your initial diagnostic evaluation our psychiatrists can discuss with you treatment options including medication management. Medication management includes discussion and education of appropriate medication options, weighing risk and benefits, minimizing side effects, and follow up care to fine tune the medication(s) to ensure efficacy and improvement of patient's symptoms. Our psychiatrists believe medication management in combination with other forms of treatment such as psychotherapy is essential for long-term improvement.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy is a structured therapy is designed to help clients reprocess and heal from traumatic or distressing memories. It uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) which involves rhythmic left to right stimulation of the brain, and is often stimulated by a therapist's hands moving back and forth, or tactile sensors a client holds in their hands which produces a small rhythmic vibration. This is done while a client focuses on a upsetting memory. This process helps patient's brain to heal and reprocess the memory so it is less emotionally distressing.
